How many times a day does a funny thought cross your mind, but you choose not to act on it because it is not what is expected? Whether it be that urge to do a cartwheel down an empty hallway, or the urge to stick a "stunt driver in training" bumper sticker on that vehicle that has one too many dents in it, I think we need to give in to these urges a little more often. And well... this year's birthday celebration comes to you from one of those passing thoughts that just hung on.

I have always been a fan of IKEA. From the little wooden children's table that my parents bought for my brother and I that is now onto its second generation of use, to the EXPEDIT (KALLAX) that hides a multitude of sins and comes in many sizes to fit any space, I have always found myself roaming the halls of IKEA looking for the next solution to my home entertainment and storage needs. One of the many afternoons spent at IKEA investigating the showrooms, a funny thought crossed my mind that it would be quite hilarious to move into one of these showrooms for an evening and so...

This year for my birthday I decided to have my birthday party at IKEA! You see, some of my friends are single parents or stay at home moms, and with the way the economy is these days you can't assume that people have the spare money for a night out on the town. That being said, the meals a the Restaurant and Cafe are affordable, delicious (and who can resist those tiny meatballs) and they even sell beer and wine until 7pm! Who knew?! Also having my birthday somewhere else meant that I didn't have to clean my house pre or post party. WIN, WIN, WIN!

Now IKEA in no way endorsed this event, nor did they know we were coming, so it took a bit of careful planning and strategy to mostly fly under the radar.

The plan:
1: Dinner at the IKEA Cafe and Restaurant
2: Invade the showroom for a board game extravaganza
3: When we get asked to leave, break out into groups for a photo scavenger hunt.

Well dinner was lovely, and the restaurant gets quite busy on a Friday night. One couple we talked to come just for the food! We discussed the best wine pairing for the meatballs (did you know they now have a vegetarian meatball option too) and listened to the tables near us noticing my friends were coming up with gift bags and realizing that I, in fact, had decided to have my birthday party at IKEA!

Well once we had finished up with the wine, and mustered up the courage to move to phase two, I gathered up the group and started leading the way to one of the showrooms I had my eye on from the scope out I did the few weeks before. A few of us settled in at the dining table for a few rounds of Taboo, and the rest of us made ourselves quite comfortable on the KIVIK corner sofa and pulled up the RISSNA coffee table that fit my Rummoli board just perfectly. Rummoli seemed to be the biggest hit and the rest of the group (and very nearly one of the shoppers) joined up with the game. Well we had shoppers stop to ask us if we were filming an ad, or if IKEA had hired us to do this. It was quite entertaining watching peoples reactions as they walked past. How are they doing that? they said. That looks like fun!, they said. I'm pretty sure we sold one of those couches as we were siting there.

Well once the same IKEA worker had walked past eyeing us for the third time, I decided it was time to move onto phase three. Photo scavenger hunt. The hunt included things like:

and my favorite... Most people on a couch! Team blue FTW on this one with 15 people on a NORSBORG U shaped couch. I also hatched a Plan B, lest it all go south quickly and booked a room in a hotel just across the street. I would like to thank Sandman South Calgary for the upgrade to a suite for my birthday! It was a great touch-down spot for in between locations, and to the attached Denny's restaurant for my free Grand Slam Breakfast (which i ate for dinner)

In the end, a fun time was had by all. Most of us bought meals, I bought lots of IKEA goodies for some adult loot bags, and a couple more people bought one or two items they needed along the way. Nothing was damaged, nobody was hurt, we stayed out of the way of legitimate customers, and we were surprisingly never asked to leave (though we were at one point told we were flagged by LP -loss prevention) they kept a close eye on us, but I thank IKEA for letting us enjoy ourselves and giving me a birthday that I won't soon forget.

Despite all of that I am quite pleased with the final project.

Materials:
Bench, found second hand $50
Piano Hinge $10
Fibre Board 1/4" x 2' x 4' $8
Wood L Trim 9ft @2/bf = 18
Chain - Pulled from the junk drawer (and this is why I never throw anything away!)

Time: About 1hr (unless you factor in the time looking for the right tools, getting the kids food and drinks and driving to the city to pick up the bench in the first place... then we are talking ALL DAY)

I had been on the hunt for new chairs for our kitchen table as our
old ones we're falling apart and about to collapse. I am a huge fan of
multi-purpose furniture so I decided to start looking for benches with
storage but I didn't find anything I liked as they all looked like
entryway benches. I then found two benches at an office furniture resale
store for $50each. They were the perfect size to fit between the table
legs and the fabric even had blues that match the kitchen walls. I
decided to convert them into a storage bench like what you would see at a
piano.

I used piano hinge and L Shaped trim to hold a
fibreboard sheet along the bottom. I didn't get the edges as nicely fit
as i would have liked but i had difficulty getting the bottom in because
of the tapered shape of the legs. The second one i might put together
in a different order to see if its easier. TRIAL AND ERROR IS MY M.O. ;)

The trickiest part was getting the piano hinge screwed to the lid.

I added chains to keep the lid from going too much past 90*.

I will do the other bench next, and will let you know if I find any shortcuts or easier ways of doing this. I may just use the extra metal L brackets that were holding the cushion on this one and just do away with the wood trim on the next one and just bolt the fibre board directly to that. The wood trim looks much cleaner from underneath, but let's be honest... who is REALLY going to look under there anyways.

There was a gingerbread house competition as part of our towns 30th annual christmas tree lighting ceremony. As i now have 2 children under 2, I certainly didnt have the time or space to go big. So i had an idea to kind of recreate the ship in a bottle idea in a gingerbread house. This may just be the next "big" thing in gingerbread houses.
I took second place in the adult category and got a ribbon and a plaque, and a generous gift card to spend at General Quarter, one of our towns local shops.

For this Christmas tree felt board i started with a cork bulletin board and wrapped it with blue felt. I bought a premium wool-viscose blend for all the felt as it is more durable and cuts and holds its shape nicer. I then added the background layer of snow.
I bought a small set of Cool touch LED lights that operate on a timer. 6 hours on then 18 off so that they come on at the same time every day and automatically shut off. I used hot glue to secure the light string to the blue background in a zig zag then designed the tree to lay over that. I used spray contact cement to stick the tree and the stump to the board. I woukd suggest going over all the edges with hot glue to make permanent.
I used a seam ripper to poke small holes in the tree felt right where the lights sit.

Lastly i added the bottom layer of snow to hide the wire. I secured the battery pack to the back of the board with hot glue and added little rubber feet to the lower edge to keep the board from sliding.

After completing the little takes car makeover and having success with the Krylon for plastics spraypaint I decided to tackle painting an old car top carrier that a friend had donated to me.
This time i tried the Krylon clear coat over it and i have a few notes from that process.
1: the Krylon clear coat does not have the same spray nozzle as the other cans and is more tricky to get an even coat.
2. It says to spray on within the hour or after 12 hours. If you are spraying over a metallic paint wait until the next day as otherwise if you overspray the clearcoat just a little it will cause the metallic flecks to float and pool.
Otherwise it all worked out great!
It was my husbands Birthday this weekend, and he has always been a huge Michael Godard fan. The Matrix Martini is his absolute favorite painting, but sadly we cannot currently afford to buy a print. I therefore decided to recreate this painting on our chalkboard wall for his Birthday. I drew this one freehand, using a picture from his book as a reference.
Here are the progress photos. I hope you enjoy.
It was held in a local arena, and was full of exhibits. This years fair theme was Denim at work or play.

I have always been fairly nervous about showing my artwork to real public (read not online) but I decided to go with it as this fair has a real laid back attitude about it. It's not a stuffy art show.

I submitted 9 entries altogether, 4 photos and 5 crafty things, and I got ribbons on all my entries and one photo was even featured in their main diplay! Exciting! Admittedly though, for some of the categories I was the only entry so took automatic first place. Hahaha. I guess strategic category selection plays a big key.
It will be good to give him something he has not seen before.

1: Bells. Very noisy
2: Blue water and glitter. Lid is on with superglue.
3: Decorative ribbon with large sequins. This rattles, but also the bottle is quite crinkly.
4: Hide and seek. Whatever would fit in the opening and rice. some small toys, balls, googly eyes etc.
5: High contrast, white and black pom poms. Very light and quiet bottle.

I will post when we get back and let you know our favorites!

UPDATE::
1: Bells - a close second favorite
2: Glitter water - Not interested AT ALL, however mommy still likes playing with it and watching the swirls. Larger glitter maybe to catch my sons eye.
3: Rattling ribbon... by far the favorite. The bottle is nearly worn out and is all scrunched, will be making a replacement soon.
4: Hide and seek -n great for rolling around on the floor at home, too heavy for the car though.
5: Pom Poms - lost this one very quickly perhaps under the seat of the car. Little interest in this. My boy likes NOISE!

Owl Pillow

I had a few bits of material left over from making my Sister-in-law her Jelly Roll Floor Pillow so I decided to use them to make a pillow, and medallion for the floor pillow to coordinate the two with an owl theme.

I saw a cute owl punch set by Stampin' up. I wanted these to be much bigger than the punch though, so I found another blog with a nice picture of the assembled product. I then enlarged that to the size I wanted on my laptop monitor and VERY carefully, so as not to damage my screen, traced the pieces onto my fabric. I used the circular patterns already found in the fabric for the different eyes.

I do not have any pictures of these two being stuffed, as I will be sending them in luggage from Canada to Austraila. I am sure my SIL will send me some pictures once they are all put together... right Ali?? :D

I attached the vest and the eyes to the body, and then the whole thing to the centre medallion with a zigzag stitch.

I then whipped around the medallion on the floor pillow about 3 times to give a nice solid stitch and make sure all those pieces were nice and secure.

Jelly Roll Floor Pillow with Owl Medallion

I sewed all the leftover strips together to make the back of the other pillow.

I then measured the brown ultrasuese material to match this size and added the owls to the centre.

I have finally filled all my frames on my photo collage wall so I have to show you.

Cost... ????
Gathered a number of frames over the last couple years. Some were from the table numbers at my wedding, but sprayed all my frames black to match. I got the larger ones at Michael's on sale using a 40% off coupon each time, and even scoring one on clearance. The smaller ones are all plain wooden frames from Ikea. Getting all the photos printed was a bit pricy though.

I marked off on my kitchen floor the size of the space on the wall I wantec to fit the frames in. I then was able to lay out all the frames and rearrange them until I was happy with the layout. I took a picture on my phone, then moved the frames over to the wall. I marked a top and bottom line on the wall with chalk and a level. As I have a sloped roof it is hard to hang anything straight otherwise.

You could also use craft paper right on the wall, but then you have to cut out all the sizes and tape and be careful when shuffling things around. Either way works.

I found these great round mirrors at Walmart!

Here is a picture of my son on his brand new Floor Pillow that I made.
My Mother-in-Law found the skeleton keys for me. I gave them a shot of black spray paint to liven them up.

Here is the completed wall, I know it looks a bit off but I had to take the picture at a bit of an angle so that the reflection of the livingroom window didn't blank out half the frames.

I have been seeing lots of Little Tikes makeovers on Pinterest lately. I am a bit sceptical about the longevity of this project because of mixed reviews I have read. However, I figure that if it makes for one really good photoshoot with my son it will be money and time well spent.

Budget:

Little Tikes Car - bought off local buy/sell site for $17
Blue Krylon Fusion for Plastics Spraypaint $6
Silver Krylon Fusion for Plastics Spraypaint $6
Clearcoat Spraypaint $6
Painters tape - already had from other projects
Newpaper - free - recycled
Drop Cloth - $1 tablecloth from dollar store
T.S.P. - Leftover from another project

Total Cost: $36
Time: 3 evenings plus drying time.

Instructions:

First of all, I have not seen this specific little tikes car before. I am not sure what it is called, maybe it is an older or limited edition of the cozy coupe? I liked it though as I have always been a fan of old cars so I snagged it up, even though it was a little bit more than I would have liked to pay.

1: I took the white part off, but left the rest of the car assembled. I washed the whole thing down with a mix of TSP and water and put it outside to dry for the day.

2: I bagged and taped off the wheels and steering wheel and painted the whole thing with the blue, even the parts I was going to paint silver. Initially I was going to use leftover silver paint from another project which was not specifically for plastic, so I planned to use the blue as a primer of sorts, but then I realized that my other silver was indoor paint, so I ended up buying silver for plastics paint anyways. If I had known that i would have painted all the silver bits first then taped the smaller parts off.

3: I gave the entire second car a second coat of blue. The Krylon for Plastics paint needs to have the second coat either before 24 hours of after 7 days so be sure you have enought time to do the second coat in the same day or you will be waiting a while.

4: I cut a hole in my tablecloth for the steering wheel to pop through, and taped off the wheels and steering column and gave the rims and steering wheel a little bling bling.

5L I then taped off the headlights taillights etc and painted those the sliver too, then taped off the fenders and sprayed from an angle along the bottom of the doors to give this a little bit of a gradient paint job. I really wanted the fenders to pop, and I think it worked quite well.

I really would have liked to paint the horn too, but I didn't want to risk ruining the squeaker in it, and because of the movement I am pretty sure the paint wouldn't have lasted anyways regardless of prep or number of coats.

I still have not done the clear coat on this, as I now have to wait a full 7 days for the paint to fully clear. I have read some reviews of the clear coat turning white when going over the specific for plastics paint, but also those people didn't wait the full cure time so I will let you all know how that goes next week, as well as how this paint holds up over time.

I found this tutorial for making a giant floor pillow and I fell in love.
Moda Bake Shop: Jelly Roll Floor Pillow

I followed their directions, but made a couple changes as I only wanted one pillow, and I had different materials to work with.

Supplies:

I lost my Walmart receipt so am estimating here.
Jelly Roll: $15
Fabric Palette Basics set (for underside) $12 , used half for each pillow = $6
Seam binding 2 packs, $6
Piping 1 pack $4
Thread ( used what I already had)
Beanbag Filler $18

Total Cost = approx. 50

Time = 2.5 days of working during nap times and after bed etc.

Instructions:

I used a Jelly Roll from Walmart and it only has 20 strips in it. I cut each strip in half, making 40 strips total, 4 of each pattern. I matched up the 4 sets or 10, and set one aside leaving me with 30 of the strips which I used for the top of the pillow. The leftover strips I will be using to make chair cushions for my old kids table and chair set from when I was young. More pics of that to come once complete.

On the Moda website, they calculate for the seam allowance on each piece, and sew one strip onto the next at a time. I did this differently and I will show you how. You may see different colors from picture to picture as I was working on 2 different pillows, one for me and one for my sister-in-law.

1: I paired all the pieces into sets of 2, keeping the same two prints paired together so that my pillow would end up with a geometric pattern. On the back of one of the two paired pieces, I marked a straight line from corner to corner.I then pinned 2 pieces right sides together.

See my fancy ruler, a piece of baseboard left over from my shelving project

2: I took each pair of panels to my sewing machine, and sewed a straight stitch along each side of the line. You don't have to worry about back stitching at this part, as the ends of each piece end up trimmed off later on anyways.

I used the line at the left side of my foot, and the needle set all the way to the left to leave a small seam allowance.

3: Now that I had a line sewed on either side of my marked line I cut through each panel following my marked line, leaving me with 2 sets of identical panels. Repeat with the remainder of the 30 panels. When all said and done you will have 60 pieces.

4: I then opened each piece and pressed the seam to one side so that each panel laid flat.

5: I continued matching 2 panels together, right sides together and sewing one edge together with the same seam allowance, trimming the tails as needed (see Moda instructions) I had a set order for assembling the pieces so I would end up with a consistent pattern as you can see below. This is 1/3 of the pillow put together.

Here is a picture of the top all put together. I could have used probably 6 less strips. As you can see it is kind of puckering and not laying flat here. I "solved" this when I sewed the top to bottom by making a tiny pleat along every second or third seam. This also gave the pillow a bit more of a poofy look.

6: I used a piece of material from the off cuts from the bottom patchwork to make this centre medallion and secured with a tight zig zag stitch. Since the fabric here was quite thick, the thread wanted to make big loops on the underside if I set my zigzag lengths too short, so I had my machine set just over 1, and went around the circle twice to get the tight stitch look that I wanted here. This also served the purpose of locking in all of the interior seams in as they had no backstitching due to trimming etc.

7. I made a patchwork for the back out of 9" x 9" squares for the underside.

8: I used seam binding for the piping around the outside and followed the directions on the Moda website for the rest.

9. I filled my pillow with bean bag polystyrene beads rather than pillow stuffing. A 100 litre bag of beans did the trick. I bought the supplies for making the covered button, but decided to skip that step for now as my son would just try and pull it off and eat it. Maybe someday down the road I will change my mind.

I think he likes it! I am super pleased with how this turned out. Now I have to finish my sister-in-laws which will be sent to her empty to fill. She lives in Australia so that is the only way I can get this to her. Lucky for me, she knows how to sew and can do the last few stitches.
When I was sourcing materials for my DIY Framed Mirror in my Bathroom Makeover Project I scored 15 lenghts of baseboard trim for $15 on kijiji from someone with leftovers from a reno project.. I only used 3 lenths for the mirror trim so I was roaming around my house thinking of other projects I could use this in.

For some time I have been pinning loads of ideas on my Pinterest page with ideas for bookshelves for my sons room. I saw all sorts of ideas, rain gutters, ikea spice racks, ikea picture ledges, and finally some baseboard shelving. There are so many different ways to attach baseboard shelving, and mine is another way but depending on your space one of these other links may help you.

The How To:

When I am planning a project that involves hanging heavy things on the walls I always get out my stud finder and check where the studs are. I know that boys will be boys and will try and climb everything so I want my projects to be robust and structurally sound. Initially I wanted to install shelving in my sons room in the dead space behind the bedroom door, unfortunately there was only one stud behind the door near the frame, and the next one hit behind where his crib is. It was then I knew I would have to look at other options.

I decided to use this little dead space at the end of my hallway. I used to have a framed picture up on the wall and a full length mirror at the end of the hall (covering up where our floating laminate floor does not reach the edge due to expansion/contraction in our canadian weather). In the end I am actually glad this ended up out in the hallway instead of my sons room. I can picture in my head the toddler tantrums and being sent to his room only to rip every single thing off the shelves, or even being a monkey and trying to climb them.

This space is just over 6 inches deep from the edge of my doorframe to the wall. There were 2 studs along the back wall to nail to, and there were bound to be studs around the door frame. I attached one piece along the back, and then short pieces down each side to butt against the door frame. The baseboard is actually upside down with the thickest part up which will allow my shelving to sit on top. I will attach another piece of trim to the front of the shelf to "catch" the books.

I measured and marked my lines on the wall with a level so I had a visual line to follow. The walls leaned out a little bit so the boards at the top were the longer than the bottom boards by about 1/4" shorter. I started cutting my longest boards first incase I cut one too short. As you can see I did, but was able to fit it into a lower slot. (I may have done that 2 more times, but was able to use those "scraps" to cut 2 lengths for my next bathroom project.

This was a learning process for me as I have never cut trim before or used a mitre saw. I decided just to cut at a 45 on the joining pieces, rather than mitring and then coping each joint. If you are using raw wood trim I would suggest taking the time to mitre and cope, but as mine were white I just filled any gaps with white paintable putty. I didn't even paint over it in the end.

My first joint:

My second joint: getting better. I will show you my "trick" next

I learned after the first cut, and went and got my bar clamp to hold my trim from shifting while I was sawing. I don't have a workbench so this was just on my livingroom floor and was a bit tough to hold long lenghts of trim level and steady as I cut before I got the clamp out.

For my shelving I used 1x8 pine shelving lumber. It is a bit more expensive than rough sawn lumber, but not my much, and not having to sand is great as I don't actually own a sander. The depth of my space was just over 6" deep, but I had to subtract the thickness of my baseboard that would sit infront of the shelving leaving me with shelves that needed to be exactly 6'. Unfortunately dimensional lumber is not exactly the size it is named by. Click here for dimensional lumber measurement chart. As you can see, a 1x6 is not actually 6 inches wide, so I had to buy a 1x8 and have my dad rip it down to 6`` widths for me on his table saw. I asked them to do this at Home Depot when I bought the lumber, but unfortunately they will not rip anything 6`` or less for safety reasons. I measured the length I needed for each shelf (as they varied a bit) and took an eigth of an inch off to allow the boards enough room to tip into the space in the wall as otherwise the corners of the board catch. I test fit each piece, and trimmed where necessary. I was careful not to trim too much as each shelf needed to sit on top of the supporting baseboards.

I actually at one point had all my trim, shelves and boards up on the wall purely friction fit, not a singly nail holding it all up.I impressed myself. And I only really had this much scrap left over from miss-cuts.

Once everything was test fit in place, i removed the shelving and front trim, and nailed my supporting boards to the wall. I used 2 finishing nails in each piece, and sunk them with a nail set, then filled the holes, and any gaps in the corners with the paintable putty. Be sure to put your nails into the thickest part of the baseboard trim. Otherwise you will be marking up your trim with the hammer trying to get it flush. Plus it will also be the strongest there.

And finally the `finished`project. Ok, so I still have to paint the shelving boards, and then nail the trim on, but I was just so eager to get things on the shelving to see how it looked it may just stay this way for a while.
Well the makeover to our ensuite has taken almost a month to complete. My husband has been very (ok at times not so very) patient with me while I renovated "his" bathroom. The only reason I started this at all is that we had 2 plaster patches on our wall from where a towel bar got ripped off nearly 4 years ago. I decided to use the leftover kitchen paint to finally paint the bathroom, but once the ball was rolling I found that I just wanted to do "just one more thing".

I am not going to do a detailed step by step tutorial as there are already so many other great ones out there. Here are a couple links.
About.com: Painting Cabinets
Centsational Girl - Includes how to and lots of other inspiratoin before/after photos
Somewhat Simple - Instructions for framing mirror including trick to deal with those pesky mirror clips
My notes for this project :
1. Take your time with the primer/paint and
do thin thin even coats as it takes way more time to sand off drips and you will probably hope that the paint will cover up your primer drips. It wont.
2. It will take up a lot of space. My kitchen was full of doors for an entire week as they needed cure time befoer rehanging
3: If your caulking looks good and does not need to be replaced, you should first check if the caulking around your cabinets is paintable. If not your paint will bead off. You may need to strip it anyways.

Budget Breakdown: I spent more on this project than usual but there are some things in a bathroom you just cant, or wouldn't want to, get second hand.

Installed a curved shower curtain rod and got a new curtain - $45
Installed a new showerhead as our old one broke 4 years ago and never got replaced as we didn't have a shower curtain anyways. -$10
Bought 2 new hand towels and 2 giant bath sheets $25
Bought a new toilet cozy and bath mat $30
Painted the beige walls blue (leftover from the kitchen) - "free"
Painted our wood veneer cabinets a dark grey - $50
-Benjamin Moore Stix Primer
-Benjamin Moore Advance paint (abyss 2128-20)
Used baseboard to make a frame for our builders mirror and painted to match the cupboards *
Baseboard purchased on kijiji from leftover reno project 8 lenghts - $15 (more projects to come keep your eyes out)
-paintable putty -$8
-Mirror adhesive - $6
Installed a new bathroom light ikea $0.50 on sale - unfortunately it isn't bright enough so i have another new one that still needs installing.
2nd hand (second) vanity light $30
Spray painted all the hardware a satin nickel $5
Installed a new toilet paper holder $10
Replaced valence over the window to match the new scheme $1(value village find)

Total cost - Budget blowing $204ish (eek!!!)

I guess I won't be buying those new shoes.

*Use LePage 610PL Mirror Construction Adhesive it was awesome! Just be sure to crack a window.
I
saw in other DIY blogs that people had trouble getting the molding to
stay put while waiting for the glue to cure but I didn't have that
problem. I assembled the frame on the ground and tacked the corners with
wood glue. I also added dab of hot glue in the low spot on the back of
the molding (so that it wouldn't raise the frame from the mirror) Our builders mirror had clips on it so i had to carve out spots on the back of the molding to fit overtop. The mirror also sat right on top of the counter molding so the frame was able to rest on that while the glue cured, holding the weight of it up.

And now... with the photos. I may as well start with a couple of before/afters as they are my fave:

I thought it would be fun if I could transfer some coloring pages onto my new chalkboard wall.

I went out and bought this EZ Tracer Projector. I paid $25 for it, and it's alright, but it only projects a small part of the image at a time, so I had to shift the paper and the projector around 7 or 8 times to get a complete image on my wall about 3 ft tall with from the size of an 8x11 page. Needless to say it was a little tricky to keep the image in line what with keeping it tilted the same way, same distance from the wall and getting it the right height off the floor. I ended up with it perched atop books on various steps of a ladder. It also was very hard, but not impossible to see the image in the daylight at a projected distance of about 4ft. I however only had a 60w incandescent bulb to use from home, so with the reccommended compact flourescent bulb I am sure it would be much better.

Here is what I accomplished on day 1. I think I will try coloring them in tomorrow and see how that goes.
If all goes well with the coloring and I decide that i really like doing this rather than drawing freehand all the time I may invest in a much better projector that can project a whole page at a time. My other option is to reduce the size of the pages on the photocopier, but this projector only magnifies 5x so shrinking it by 3x to start will is like 2 steps forward and one step back.

Stay tuned for an update!

Update: Completed Yoda!

Using Crayola Sidewalk Chalk. I bought a pack of 48 colors at Walmart for $6. They are a little more waxy than regular chalk so they don't quite blend as well. at 24hrs the test patch washed off the wall easily without leaving any ghosting. I tried a test patch of chalk pastels too but they did not wash off well with a damp cloth and did leave a tracer outline.

Overall quite pleased at how he turned out. I wasn't sure how I was going to preserve all the details, but found with the really little details I had to go over with the small chalk in as close of a color as I had.
Update Feb 17 : Completed R2D2. Was a little difficult coloring something that is almost entirely white.
Update: Feb 21 Completed C3P0. As you can tell it takes a few days to complete a drawing when you can only work during "nap time" lol. I hope you enjoy the completed pieces. Will be adding some text quotes soon.
